New years resolutions to improve fitness

“Research shows that 80 percent of all New Year’s resolutions are broken by Jan. 31 – and if the resolution has to do with health and fitness, 90 percent will be broken by the middle of January.”, said Jeanine Justice from the Healthy Lifestyle La Plata Coalition.

In order to stick to your new years resolutions a few tips and ideas may be helpful.

Tips for making new years resolutions

To incorporate fitness into your lifestyle, start with these tips;

  • Create a plan.
  • Start with small steps which build confidence.
  • Start with realistic small goals.
  • Set time aside to commit to and assess goals.
  • Write down what you plan to do. For example, walk for 20 mins on Monday at 7AM.
  • Keep it simple.

Increasing physical activity doesn’t have to be hard work or boring. Choose an activity that is enjoyable for you. It may be as simple as playing with your children, gardening, dancing or riding a bike to work.
