Definition of Hypertension Could Change Again

Our Summary

At the American Society of Hypertension 20th Annual Meeting in San Francisco as written in The Medical Post, “Dr.Giles noted the definition is not a guideline for treatment, but a call for doctors and patients to understand that treatment of hypertension requires attention to something more than just a number“.

Under the new definition, patients are divided into categories of normal and then stages 1 to 3 hypertension“.

The new definition involves clinicians incorporating many factors, including age, gender and heredity not just blood pressure readings in assessing the total disease state.
